Dean E. Turner

Dean E. Turner, age 81 of Maryville, born October 5, 1931 in Posey, IL, passed away 4:45 am Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.

He was a retired cement mason, business agent for the Cement Mason’s and Plasterer’s Local #90 of Troy, IL, secretary-treasurer for the Southwestern Illinois Building Trades Council, and administrator of the Employer’s and Cement Mason’s Benefit Fund.  He was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, IL, an Army veteran who served three years in Germany during the Korean War, and a member of the VFW Post #5691 in Collinsville, IL.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter, a very devoted son to his parents, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a lifelong Democrat and a friend of organized labor in Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil “Midge” and Emily nee Meyer Turner, and a sister, Jackie Turner.

Dean is survived by his wife, Florence nee Gill Turner, whom he married October 10, 1954; a daughter, Terri (Mash) Cook of Maryville; a son, Russell (Pearl) Turner of Deerfield Beach, FL; a granddaughter, Payton Turner, and a step grandson, Taylor Dodge both of Deerfield Beach, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will 4pm to 8pm Sunday, November 4, 2012 be at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL.

Funeral services will be 10am Monday November 5, 2012 at Troy United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dennis Price officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL.
