Charles William Holten

Charles William “Bill” Holten, age 78 of Maryville, IL, born January 7, 1939 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away June 11, 2017 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

He was a retired sales manager for Medical Diagnostic Labs. He was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, was very involved in the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight, a past Grand Knight, a past Elks Exalted Ruler, and an Army Veteran. He earned a Bachelor of Business degree, having played baseball as a left-handed pitcher at St. Mary’s University in Minnesota. He enjoyed attending his grandkids’ activities, was an avid reader, a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and he loved desserts, especially Bobby’s ice cream, and his furry friend, CoCo. He had a great sense of humor and always made everyone laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Edmund and Elizabeth (nee Small) Holten, a brother, Edmund, and sisters Betty Keeley and Marilyn Frey.

Bill is survived by his wife, Peggy (nee Witt) Holten whom he married on June 20, 1964; two sons: Brett (Sherry) Holten of Collinsville, IL, and Scott (Marcia) Holten of Dunedin, FL; and a daughter, Terry (Crin) Dima of Rockledge, FL; six grandchildren: Alex, Emily, Jake, Kale, Pierce, and Vivian; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville with Father Joseph Havrilka, Celebrant. A private burial will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Belleville.

Memorials may be made to Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
