Charles "Chuck" Van Gilder

Charles H. “Chuck” Van Gilder, age 90 of Glen Carbon, IL, born September 21, 1926 in Sterling, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. 

Chuck was a retired car salesman.  He worked for BBB Cadillac in Collinsville for 15 years then finished his career at Laura Buick.  He was an Army Veteran serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, a former choir member, and former member of the Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis.  He volunteered at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry and Mable nee Stevens Van Gilder; a sister, Lois Bartz; a half sister, Betty Bower; and a great step grandson, Robin Wallace.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley nee Spelver Van Gilder, whom he married on August 31, 1972; a son, Lonnie (Joanne) Van Gilder; three daughters:  Jody Seip, Susan Case, and Kimber Beiser; two stepchildren:  Deborah Wallace and Kevin Seymore; three grandchildren:  Emilie (Pat) Halm, Ben (Kari) Matthews and Andrew (Janelle) Matthews; two step grandchildren:  Ashley (Tim) Manville and Jeremy Wallace; 16 great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 304 South Street, Collinsville, IL. 

Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. following the visitation with Rev. Kyle Wright and Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer officiating.  Burial with military honors will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL. 

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and will be received at the visitation.
