Doris M. Bauer

Doris May Bauer, age 87 of Caseyville, IL, born May 17, 1929 in rural Caseyville, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at The Arbors at Parkway Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL. 

She graduated as Valedictorian of the 1946 Collinsville High School class, and then attained her Masters of Education from University of Illinois.  She retired as a high school English and History teacher when she lived in Florida.  Students remember her being tough in class, but a teacher from whom they learned a lot.  She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville, the Collinsville Historical Society, Catsup Bottle Restoration Committee, and the Friends of Glenwood Cemetery.  Doris enjoyed doing historical and genealogical research for family, friends, church, and community.  She was well known in the area for helping preserve local landmarks.  As a result, she wrote numerous stories documenting life events of family and took pride in sharing them in unique ways.  She was very active in the Titusville, FL Little Theater.  She spent many hours reading, sewing and baking.  She will be remembered for adding her zest and perspective to all that she did. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Carl and Frances nee Nizolek Bauer. 

She is survived by her sister, F. Wilma Wenzel of Caseyville, IL; a niece, Frances Kaiser of SC; and a nephew, Robert Wenzel of Caseyville.

Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at St. John United Church of Christ, 307 West Clay, Collinsville, IL. 

Funeral will be at 12 noon following the visitation with Pastor Katie Jo Bielke officiating.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Collinsville, IL. 

Memorials may be made to The Collinsville Historical Society, Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. John UCC and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home.
