James "Jim" Melvin Atnip
James “Jim” Melvin Atnip, age 78 of Maryville, IL, born December 7, 1937 in Granite City, IL passed away at 6:33 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2016 at his residence surrounded by family.
Jim retired as a core room supervisor from American Steel in Granite City, IL after 31 years of service. He was a member of the American Steel 25 year club, and an Army veteran having served during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Martha nee Hood Atnip; two sisters: Deborah Valencia and Rebecca Atnip.
He is survived by his wife, Regena nee Young Atnip, whom he married on February 28, 1986; two sons: Michael Morris of Sandoval, IL and Donald Ingram of Maryville, IL; nine daughters: Dana (Rob) Angle of Bunker Hill, IL, Debbie Morris of Collinsville, IL, Jennifer “Pud” (Andrew) Bertke of Collinsville, IL, Ashley N. Atnip of Alton, IL, Patsy Atnip of Collinsville, IL, Barbara Atnip of Maryville, IL, Ashley Marie Atnip of Maryville, IL, Samantha Ingram of Maryville, IL and Rebecca Ingram of Maryville, IL; 17 grandchildren: Brittany (Nick) Corzine, Chelsea Angle, Randy Baughman, Courtney (Michael) English, Chad Cochran, Chris (Jewelia) Plemmons, Justin Angle, Rodney Toops, Dylan, William, Emily, Ryan, Charlie and Alijah Morris, Seth Sturgeon, Fabianna and Jhett Atnip; 2 great grandchildren: Cayce Cochran and Axle Corzine; step-son from previous marriage, Michael Healy, OH; step-daughter from previous marriage, Christine Stedman, Caseyville, IL.
Visitation will be 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 11am on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Nate Bock officiating. Burial will be in Richmann Chapel Cemetery, Shook, MO.
