Robert L. Jones

Robert “Bob” Lawrence Jones, age 84 of Collinsville, IL born November 3, 1931 in Granite City, IL passed away at 1:46 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL. 

Bob was a 1950 graduate of Collinsville High School.  He was a Kahok basketball season ticketholder for 55 years, and was a past Purple Pride President.  He retired after 41 years of service from Granite City Steel as a Metallurgist, Supervisor in the Cold Roll Finish Department.  Bob is a Korean War Army veteran.  He received numerous awards including a Korean Service Ribbon from WWII, Bronze Service Stars Merit Unit Citation, United Nations Service Metal, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Korea Press Unit Citation. For 62 years he has been a faithful member at the New Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon, IL having held every office in the church, including serving as past President of United Methodist Men’s District and Local.  He was active in many mission trips including the BISTI Mission, Navajo Reservation in NM, Tahlequah, OK, Homestead, FL, Guatemala, Thousand Sticks, KY, Honduras, Liberia, Africa, and Flood Relief in Baldwin, LA, IA and KY.  He helped restore the Yanda log cabin in Glen Carbon, IL.  He enjoyed making wedding cakes, and working on cars and TV’s. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Agnes nee Berry Jones; two sisters:  Ellen Reimler and Gaharta Schneider; and a brother, Bill Jones. 

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann nee Scheibal Jones; whom he married on December 11, 1954; a son, Robert (Beverly) Jones of Collinsville; a daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Pulvirenti of Maryville, IL; four grandchildren:  Dottie (John W. II ) Ciarrocchi, Wes Jones, Todd (Dawn) Pulvirenti, and Tayler Pulvirenti; one great grandson, John W. Ciarrocchi III; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Bob's family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the exemplary care given by Anderson Hospital, especially the staff of the ER, 2nd floor and the ICU. The family would also like to sincerely thank Meridian Village Care Center, for their outstanding support during this time. 

Visitation will be 3pm to 7pm on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. 

Funeral service will be at 10am Monday, July 25, 2016 at New Bethel United Methodist Church, 131 N. Main, Glen Carbon, IL with Dr. Penny Barber officiating.  Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery, Maryville, IL. 

Memorials may be made to New Bethel United Methodist Church or to the Meridian Village Benevolent Fund, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
