Charlene nee Sumner Burkhardt, age 61 of Caseyville, IL, formerly of Arlington Heights, IL born May 9, 1950 in East St. Louis, IL passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 peacefully at home with her daughter by her bedside.
Charlene was employed as a Mutual Clerk at the Chicagoland Thoroughbred Race Tracks for many years and later became an over the road truck driver. She was a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caseyville. Charlene truly enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and repurposing anything that caught her eye, and especially spending time with her pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Emma nee Roever Sumner, brothers William and Vincent Fausz, many aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her daughter Amy (Tim Hagen) Vinson of Fairview Heights, IL, a son Garrick Burkhardt of Houston, TX, grandchildren Emma Vinson and Bret Hagen, sister in law Mary Fausz, nieces Kathleen Koch and Patricia Peludat, a nephew Mark Fausz, and special companions Ethel and Chico. Charlene will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Charlene's life will be 12 noon Thursday September 1, 2011 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home 2800 North Center Maryville, IL with a memorial gathering from 10:30 am until time of services. Father Joe Rascher will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service at the Maryville KC Hall which is adjacent to Barry Wilson Funeral Home.
