Elery L. Rule

Elery  L. “E.L.” Rule, age 89 of Maryville, IL, formerly of Collinsville, born October 19, 1926 in Columbia, MO passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Elery worked as a carpenter for many years.  He was Superintendent of Construction for Leo Wolf Construction Co. in Granite City, IL for 19 years, eventually starting Rule Construction Co. with his son in Collinsville, IL.  E.L. was a member of Carpenter’s Local 633, he was an instructor at the Madison County Carpenter’s Apprenticeship Program, and became the Apprenticeship Program Coordinator.  E.L. and his wife retired to Lake of the Ozarks for 17 years to fish and enjoy life with his family and many friends until moving back to Maryville.  He was a great father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  His family was a great source of pride to him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. nee Parker, Rule, his mother, Leta nee Rule Meloway; two brothers, Kenneth and Gene Meloway; four sisters, Evelyn Reilly, Betty Robinson, Maxine Cromwell, and Hazel Meloway, and a granddaughter, Angela Moore.

He is survived by a son, Keith (Kathie) Rule of Spring Branch, TX; a daughter, Karol (Bruce) Balbin of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren:  Travis Rule, Kate (Austin) MacKintosh, and Kristina Balbin; four great grandchildren:  Emma Balbin, Karsten Moore, Sean and Case MacKintosh.

Visitation will be from 3pm to 6pm on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL.

Graveside service will be at 10am on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Lake View Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL with Rev. Tony Minear officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital and will be received at the funeral home.
