Margaret J. (Sova) Crooks
Margaret J. (Sova) Crooks, age 85 of Collinsville, IL passed away at 4:14pm on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville, IL, surrounded by her children.
Born on April 5, 1930 in Morgantown, WV, Margaret married Robert Sova in 1950 and was a military wife for 20 years. During that time, she had seven children. She later married Michael (Mick) Crooks, to whom she was married for 34 years. Tiny in stature, but mighty in work ethic, her positive attitude was a model of loving compassion to her children and to all she touched. She was fondly known in several local establishments as the “little short waitress,” and also loved greeting customers while working at the Keller Farm sweet corn stands. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Margaret also enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, traveling, an occasional stop at the Casino Queen, and attending her children and grandchildren’s activities.
Margaret is survived by three sons: Gary (Beth) Sova of Houston, TX; Robert Sova, Jr. of Collinsville, IL; and Mathew (Marcy) Sova of Bonnie, IL; four daughters: Karen (Rhonda) Sova of San Diego, CA; Marcia (Roy) Sova-Felker of Santa Fe, TX; Tina (Craig) Keller of Maryville, IL; and Angela Jones of Midlothian, TX; 13 grandchildren: Broc, Adrienne, Kelli, Kasey, Lindsey, Brittany, Lauren, Matti, Brittany, Alexa, Trey, Kamren and Christian; three great grandchildren: Gideon, Eliana and Adelie; brother Frank (Marysia) Sellaro of Moorefield, WV; three sisters: Rose Sterling of Morgantown, WV; Julia Root of Mannington, WV and Annie Brinegar of Charleston, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sellaro and Angelina nee Aloisio Sellaro; her husband, Michael (Mick) Crooks; a grandson: Cory Wilson; seven sisters: Teresa Thomas, Josephine Peacher, Sophie Musick, Angelina Lash, Constance Sellaro, Mary Brooks and Sophia Saluga; and two brothers: Pasquale Sellaro and Sam Angotti.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL.
Funeral services will be at 9am on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Tony Minear officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
