William Joseph Thomas

William Joseph Thomas, born August 9, 1933, in St. Louis, MO passed peacefully at Emerald Nursing Home in Port St. Lucie, FL on January 4, 2015 at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne Grace (nee Pettersen) Thomas; parents, Joseph and Mabel Thomas; sister, Shirley (nee Thomas) Saul; brother, Harry Thomas and great-granddaughter, Josephine Droy.

He is survived by a sister, Claudette (nee Thomas) Turns of St. Louis, MO, children:  Michael (Sandy) Thomas of Palm City, FL; Joseph (Donna) Thomas of Troy, IL; Lynnette (David) Ortuno of Palm Bay, FL; Debra (Kenneth) Lanahan of Gulfport, MS; Anthony (Betsy) Thomas of Troy, IL; Cara (Dave) Baczewski of Moscow Mills, MO along with fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Bill was a loving husband and wonderful father of six children, enjoyed sports and was Fourth Degree member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Maryville/Troy, IL.  He was also a dear friend of many.  He was a former member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL and Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Land O Lakes, FL.

Bill retired after many years as a Union Glazier from Local Union 513.  He also served in the United States Navy.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.

There will be a family visitation on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Martin Funeral Home in Stuart, FL, with a mass following at 11:00 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City, FL. 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Barry Wilson funeral home in Maryville, IL.
