Barbara L. Chappius
Barbara L. nee Hook Burns Chappius, age 75 of Highland, IL, formerly of Troy, IL born December 3, 1938 in East St. Louis, IL passed away at 4:41 a.m. on October 28, 2014 at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home in Edwardsville, IL surrounded by her loving family.
She was a 1957 graduate of East St. Louis Senior High School and was a retired dental receptionist after 15 years of service at Kwapis Dyer Knox & Miller in Edwardsville. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids. She bowled in several leagues and enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas and the “boat”, but family gatherings of poker and card nights were her favorite times.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marguerite nee Root Hook; her first husband, James Burns, whom she married on June 3, 1957 and died on December 16, 1988; her second husband, Donald Chappius, whom she married on March 20, 1993 and died on April 15, 2013; two brothers: Donald and Robert Hook; and two sisters: Evelyn Hyden and Viola Kipping.
She is survived by her son, James Kent (Sandy) Burns of Glendale, AZ; a daughter, Karen (Kevin) Flaugher of Maryville, IL; a brother, Charles (Jeanette) Hook of Anna, IL; a sister, Edna Mae (Jerry) Boswell of Salem, IL; a sister-in-law, Helen (Ted) Heady of Overland, MO; five grandchildren: Jason (Sara) Burns of Highland, IL; Megan (John) Clarkin of Highland, IL, Brian (Jacki) Hunziker of Collinsville, IL, Bradley Hunziker of Maryville, IL, and Collin Burns of Glendale, AZ; one great granddaughter: Camryn Burns of Highland, IL; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
The family would like to express a special thank you to her Hospice of Southern Illinois homecare nurses, and the staff at Relais Bonne Eau for their wonderful and loving care.
Visitation will be 4pm to 8pm Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10am Friday, October 31, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Donahue officiating. Burial will be in Frieden’s Cemetery, Troy, IL.
Memorials may be made to Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home and will be accepted at the funeral home.
