Edward R. Hejmej

Edward R. Hejmej, age 90 of Maryville, IL, born July 8, 1924 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away at 8:45 am on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.

Edward retired from Cerro Cooper & Brass after many years of service.  He was a WW II Army Veteran, and was in the 16th Armored Division Company B 23rd Calvary.  He was a member of the Polish American War Veterans, Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL and was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casimir and Agatha nee Kudlata Hejmej; and siblings, John, Joe, Frank, Ann, Emily and twin infant sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita nee Konieczny Hejmej, whom he married on October 1, 1955; a sister, Rose Hejmej of Belleville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL.  Father Joseph Havrilka will have a prayer service at 4pm.

Funeral service will be at 10am on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the funeral home with Father Stanley Konieczny officiating.  Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL with military honors.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Smithton, IL.

Memorials may be made to Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
