Fred Gilbert Turner
Fred Gilbert Turner Jr. age 95 of Collinsville, IL, born July 27, 1919 in Collinsville, IL, passed away on Friday August 8, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Fred was retired from Union Electric. He was a Collinsville High School graduate and was a POW WWII Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW Post #5691 in Collinsville, IL, and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL. He really enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Blues hockey, fishing, and also enjoyed visiting and had many friends at Lyle’s Tavern in Maryville, and the Collinsville VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wife Loretta Mae nee Grosenheider Turner, his parents Fred Gilbert and Laura Olga nee Troliet Turner Sr., four brothers; Austin, Edward, Ardy, and Norman Turner, three sisters; Helen Shelton, Louise Cargnino, and Audrey Newgent.
He is survived by a daughter Cindy Sims of Collinsville, IL, two sons; Duane (Pamela) Turner of Collinsville, IL, and Gil (Kena) Turner of Troy, IL, six grandchildren Shawn (Stephanie) Sims, Tara (Jason) Yobby, Derek (Rebecca) Turner, Brett Turner all of Collinsville, IL, Kyle (Katie) Turner of Edwardsville, IL, and Kristin (Zachary) Jones of Troy, IL, nine great grandchildren; Ricky, Cameron, Leah, Hannah, Holly, Daniel, Skylar, Trystan, and Willow, two sisters-in-law Vi and Annabelle Turner both of Collinsville, IL, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Sunday August 10, 2014 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home 2800 North Center Street Maryville, IL. There will be a VFW honor guard Sunday evening.
Funeral services will be at 11am on Monday August 11, 2014 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Walther officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, IL, with military honors being presented by the VFW Post #5691 of Collinsville.
Memorials may be made to Billhartz Animal Shelter or to VFW Post #5691 and will be received at the funeral home.
