Edward D. Schaffer
Edward D. Schaffer age 83 of Collinsville, IL, formerly of Cahokia, IL, born January 5, 1931 in St. John’s Station, MO, passed away at 9:17pm on Monday February 17, 2014 at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home in Edwardsville, IL.
He was a retired millwright for National Lead and Amax Big River Zinc. Edward was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, IL. He was a Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 581 in Columbia, IL, where he was a former member of the honor guard.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret M. nee McMullan, his parents Edward and Dorothy nee Miller Schaffer, two sisters Joan Becker and Shirley O’Brien, and a granddaughter Donna Schaffer.
He is survived by a son Timothy (Angela) Schaffer of Cahokia, IL, a daughter Barbara (Peter) Stehman of Collinsville, IL, grandchildren Jenny (Eric) Hayes, David (Elisha) Schaffer, Nicole and Robert Schaffer, Courtney, Christopher and Nathan Stehman, great grandchildren Audrey and Dominic Hayes, Devin Cason, and Malia Schaffer, a sister Germaine (Edward) Vogt of Columbia, IL, a brother-in-law Dennis (Marie) McMullan of Waterloo, IL, three sister-in-laws Patricia McMullan of Columbia, IL, Lucy (Robert) Ahne of Carbondale, IL, Janet McMullan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass will be at 11am on Saturday March 8, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church 116 Church Street Cahokia, IL 62206 with Father Paul Weinhoff celebrant. Upon Edward’s request his body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.
