Harry John Cerveny
Harry Cerveny, 89, of Edwardsville, IL passed away, Friday, February 7th at Anderson hospital after suffering from a heart attack and several strokes. His granddaughter Denanne Heil was by his side.
Harry lived with Denanne and her husband Steve and their two children, Derek and Sierra, and multiple animals for 17 years after Harry’s beloved wife, Marion Cerveny, died.
Sunday mornings would find this family at Providence Presbyterian Church. Harry would have his pockets full of candy and gum. He had no children of his own but he was the adopted “grandpa” of all the children. He had a warm smile and greeting for everyone. His sweet spirit will be tremendously missed.
Harry always went to church early because he wanted to hear the choir rehearse. He loved music and enjoyed singing in harmony with Marion through out their marriage. He was a devoted bachelor until he met the love of his life at age 50 and married her in 1975. They lived in West Montgomery, PA most of their married life.
Harry was born in 1924 in Pittsburgh PA and served in the US Navy for three years during WWII. He was a fine finish carpenter and loved fixing things. As an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan he was often found in front of the TV cheering with his “Bud” and grandson Derek.
Harry is survived by his step daughter, Diane Savoca and her husband Denny of Holiday Shores, step-son Gleason “Bud” Gosnell of Indianapolis: three grandchildren Denanne (Steve) Heil of Edwardsville and Dean (Heather) Savoca of Denver Colorado, Chris Gosnell of Columbus, Indiana, and six great grandchildren, Sierra and Derek Heil, Tiffany McCathy, Anthony Del Bianco and Grace and Ella Savoca.
Harry will be buried beside his wife in Allegheny County Memorial Park in Pennsylvania.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on Monday February 10th at Metro Community Church: 3551 Ridgeview, Edwardsville, IL.62025. Visitation: 5 p.m. and memorial Service 7 p.m. Pastor Aaron Myers will be officiating.
