Shirley A. Kopatz
Shirley A. (Lemons) Kopatz age 67 of Caseyville, IL, died Monday September 9, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, MO after a brief illness. She was born on September 14, 1945 at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, IL to 1st Lt. George Lemons and Barbara Lemons. She was a graduate of East Pike H.S., Milton, IL and attended Western Illinois University.
When she moved to Springfield, IL she worked for Illinois National Insurance Company. Over the next 30 years Shirley served as Parish Administrator for Immanuel Lutheran Church and School – Springfield, Christ Episcopal Church – Springfield, and St. James Lutheran Church – Rock Island.
Shirley was a Board of Directors member for Springfield Lutheran H.S., parent, volunteer and recipient of the Christian Service Award in 1993. She was currently serving as an officer of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School, Collinsville, IL and was a member of the hand bell choir. She served as an Ambassador for Lutheran Family and Children’s Services, was co-chair of the 2009 Auction Committee, and served for many years as a volunteer in LFCS’s development office. While in Springfield, Shirley was a member of the Junior League, served as Chair of the Golden Laurels Award Committee, and was an officer of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her father, George.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tom, whom she married on May 6, 1966; three daughters: Amy (Todd) Reed, Springfield, IL, Jennifer (Eric) Walker, Springfield, IL and Sarah Kopatz of Caseyville, IL; five grandchildren: Erica (John) Muchow, Melanie Walker, Nolan Walker, Ashley Reed and Zachary Reed; her sister, Judy (Clint) Hurdle, Bath, IL; and mother, Barbara nee Bunn Lemons of Petersburg, IL.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 9am on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church 304 South Street, Collinsville, IL with Rev. Fred Kraemer and Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer officiating. Graveside service will be at 1pm in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL
