Kathleen Marie Kumle
Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Kumle, nee Mason, 79, of Granite City, IL, born July 29, 1933 in Chicago, IL, passed away on Friday December 28, 2012 at her home.
Kathy enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her large family with her husband, Bob. They lived in Miami FL and Franklin NC before returning to their Illinois roots in 1983. While living in Franklin NC, Kathy owned and operated Kathy’s Fabrics. In 1983, she & Bob moved back to Illinois taking over the ownership and operations of Town & Country Liquors from Kathy’s parents.
Kathy loved to read, play cards, crossword puzzles and cooking for her family. She often said she never figured out how to downsize after cooking for such a large family for all those years. She also dearly loved her cats, Patch, Tiger, Tortie, Whiskers and Callie.
She was preceded in death on December 3, 2009 by her husband S.B. “Bob” Kumle Jr. whom she married on November 6, 1955 in Bloomington, IL. She was also preceded in death by her parents A. Harold & Marie Virginia nee McKinley Mason, a daughter Beverly Kumle, a grandson Gregory Burgelin, two brothers; Richard “Bud” Mason and Gordon Mason, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law June & Reece Kern and a nephew, Ronnie Kern.
Kathy is survived by five daughters; Marsha Kumle of Granite City, IL, Debra (Robert) Burgelin of Collinsville, IL, Karen Kumle Nye of Franklin, NC, Cynthia Kumle (John Schwieder) of Anchorage, AK, and Amy (Carlos) Huddleston of Troy, IL, two sons; James (Carolyn) Kumle of Mooresville, NC, and Harry Kumle of Charlotte, NC, two brothers; James Mason & Robert Mason of Granite City, IL three sisters; Connie (Donald) Shimkus of Lombard, IL, Diane Mason of Granite City, IL, and Gail (Dale) Coleno of Canton, IL, a sister-in-law Carol Mason of Scranton, PA, a niece Julie (David) Morrison of New Berlin, a nephew David (Lydia) Kern of New Berlin and 8 other nieces and 2 nephews, five grandsons; John Burgelin of Collinsville, IL, Josh Burgelin of Indianapolis, IN, John Keener of Gainsville, GA, Michael Nye of Asheville, NC, and Tristen Huddleston of Troy, IL, five granddaughters; Amy (Chad) Clark of Greenville, NC, Beverly (Matthew) Ramey of Rabun Gap, GA, Jori (Frank) Derner of Granite City, IL, Jada Nye (Pat Farris) of Asheville, NC and Samantha Huddleston of Troy, IL, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Memorial gathering will be from 2pm to 3:30 pm on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home 2800 North Center Street Maryville, IL.
Memorial service will be at 3:30 pm at Barry Wilson Funeral Home with Father Jeff Holtman officiating.
